Binghamton for a long time had a reputation of being the place where everything eventually turned up. This was true in the NYSW era as much as it had been in the past. A lot of odd short line power showed up, since the D&H shop had capability smaller places did not, and Im sure Walter Rich saw it as a revenue opportunity. The result was that a lot of things that "could never happen," happened here. We see a case in point: an NYSW C420 coupled to a Rahway Valley 70 tonner, though at this stage, it was not so far fetched, since both roads were under the Delaware-Otsego umbrella. Still, it was not likely to happen-but there it is, like seeing the Easter bunny and bigfoot at the same time. |
