The Long Wharf
While the Long Wharf at the "Port of Los Angeles" actually jutted out into the Pacific Ocean slightly north of here, this is the historic marker for the one time dream to build a thriving ship to railroad port near Santa Monica CA. The Los Angeles and Independence was the original railroad here, later Southern Pacific, and then Pacific Electric. While the eastern portion of this line is being turned into a mass transit line, there is no talk of ever bringing the tracks all the way out here to the one time western end of the line.
