Something old, something new
Title:  Something old, something new
Description:  The newly rebuilt 7407 sits at the fuel pad, while 1963 built 5017 switches a few tracks over, showing signs that it still has some life in it, as only an Alco can.

Crossing over
Title:  Crossing over
Description:  PYRP has made it out the north end of the yard, and is now about to cross over the Tier at BD, starting its trip through Bevier St, and on up to Belden tunnel. The track on the diagonal from where the train is, on the ex DLW, to the Southern Tier Line, is the connecting track used by most trains going west on the Tier, though they can also come in and out by staying on the track PYRP is on now through the DLW station area.

Reading roster
Title:  Reading roster
Description:  I caught both green ex Reading units this day, the other, 7410, going north on PYRP. This roster view was taken at the fuel pad. Still looks good for 14 years of no new paint-not that anyone minded.

Big deal
Title:  Big deal
Description:  There was a time when a pair of Alcos such as this was not totally unusual, though there with only 16 C430s built, they did not widely mix. By 1990, ANY Alco was a notable sighting. Here we have two of the more unusual models, a C 430, and a high hood, steam generator equipped C 420, basking in the sun at East Binghamton.

Odd visitor
Title:  Odd visitor
Description:  Another one of those "bigfoot and the Easter bunny" combinations, one that "wont ever happen," is here at Binghamton on BUME, about to hit BD and head for the yard. A North Shore CF 7, probably here for more extensive work than its home shop can do, trails the NYSW leader.

PYRP arrives
Title:  PYRP arrives
Description:  PYRP crosses Terrace Drive and enters the East Binghamton yard. Power is typical, but today we have something different, rebuilt GP 38-2 7312, just in from M-K in Mountain Top PA. Note the railfan chase vehicle in the foreground. This was a Canadian built Chevy Celebrity for the Canadian market-the speed read in kilometers per hour, and the odometer counted kilometers. It took some adjusting to figure out how far and fast you were going. I got pretty good at multiplying everything by 5/8ths.

New arrival
Title:  New arrival
Description:  Not only todays PYPR, but this rebuilt GP38-2. It looks good, and will be one of the last survivors in that scheme. It was still wearing it in 2015, a full 25 years after it was rebuilt.

Power to the house
Title:  Power to the house
Description:  The power of just arrived PYRP has cut off its train and is now going to the shop for servicing before going back south on tomorrows RPPY.

Bigfoot and the Easter bunny
Title:  Bigfoot and the Easter bunny
Description:  Binghamton for a long time had a reputation of being the place where everything eventually turned up. This was true in the NYSW era as much as it had been in the past. A lot of odd short line power showed up, since the D&H shop had capability smaller places did not, and Im sure Walter Rich saw it as a revenue opportunity. The result was that a lot of things that "could never happen," happened here. We see a case in point: an NYSW C420 coupled to a Rahway Valley 70 tonner, though at this stage, it was not so far fetched, since both roads were under the Delaware-Otsego umbrella. Still, it was not likely to happen-but there it is, like seeing the Easter bunny and bigfoot at the same time.

Whod believe it??
Title:  Whod believe it??
Description:  Power from NYSW, NS, CSX, and even New Jersey short line Rahway Valley is at the East Binghamton engine house. Ten years earlier, if you told someone you would see this set up, theyd be checking your meds.

Turning north
Title:  Turning north
Description:  PYRP is about to hit track 5, the track that diverges from track 3 to go to Bevier St and north. Despite an effort to have NYSW power lead, and a trend toward more uniform power consists, sometimes the yards would turn out a dogs breakfast, such as this set of two Guilford painted units, lightning stripe, and a yellowjacket. But theres an Alco!!
