CN 2275 and 2770 take the SW connection with M344 heading south on the Valley
Title:  CN 2275 and 2770 take the SW connection with M344 heading south on the Valley
Description:  Superior Sub runs left to right across the foreground, diamond with the Valley Sub is just visible in the lower left. Perhaps unique for a railroad diamond in Wisconsin in this day and age, connector tracks in all four quadrants are still in place and in service at Junction City, along with RTC-controlled sidings just to the south (visible ahead and to the left of 2275) on the Valley, and west on the Superior.

No, THAT way!
Title:  No, THAT way!
Description:  The crew has cut off 2275, to my confusion. To my further confusion, they proceeded to wye it to have it facing long-hood-forward westbound on the Whitehall Sub. After consulting with another area railfan, the only reason I can think of is that 2770 is not PTC-equipped, and they wanted 2275 facing forward to eventually lead the train east again and back into PTC territory.

M344 creaks around the curve on the connection to the Whitehall Sub (ex-GBW)
Title:  M344 creaks around the curve on the connection to the Whitehall Sub (ex-GBW)
Description:  The ex-GBW main continues to the right (east), but stub-ends just west of the former 17th Ave. N crossing (south of the two existing RR crossings on that road). About 2,800' of the line is removed up to just east of 10th Ave. N, where a tiny stub formed by the southwest quadrant connecting track to the ex-MILW Valley Sub still exists for some reason. Then the line is removed through the former location of the diamond (done almost immediately upon the acquision of the GBW/FRVR by WC in 1993). Additional connecting tracks on the east side of the ex-MILW line allow for service as far as Plover.
