Long before an SD40 wore the MILW #27, this Burnham, Wms & Co built 4-4-2 Atlantic type steam locomotive had the honor of this number. Originally built in November of 1899 as MILW #411, the loco was renumbered and rebuilt several times - MILW 912 in 1901, MILW 3011 in 1912 and finally MILW 27 in 1938. Original specs - serial #17224, class A1, 78" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, Vauclain compoumd with 22x26" & 13x26" cylinders, engine weight of 140,700 lb, modest tractive effort of 14,196 lb.
