Revised Caption: "PRR No. 43 was built by Smith and Perkins of Alexandria, Va., and was named originally the 'Altoona.' Rebuilt in 1866, it was given the number 43."

Description:  Here is a photo that was included in the "Altoona Area Railroad Pictorial History" edited by Linda White and published in 1996 by The Altoona Mirror, pages 50-51. Photo Caption: "The engine 'Altoona' after being rebuilt in the Altoona shops in 1866. It was built by Smith and Perkins of Alexandria, Va., in October 1852 [and] was placed on the Eastern Division in December 1852. It was originally a 2-6-0, but was rebuilt into a 4-6-0, as were others of this type. In the background is the Logan House, while at the left is the St. Charles Hotel, once a famous hostelry in Altoona."
