JPBX 504 leads a deadhead of Bombardier passenger equipment through Tamien station northbound. 504 was built in 1974 for SP, and went to UP following the UP/SP merger in 1996. In the mid-2000s, Caltrain was looking to replace the two GP9 locomotives they operated in MOW service, which were nearly 50 years old. They purchased 2692 (now renumbered to UP 1290), along with sister unit UP 1289 (another ex-SP unit), and the two came to the railroad in the mid 2000s. |
