A CN local approaches Military Rd. as it heads southeast with 16 cars via former joint MILW/SOO rails at Sherwood, WI, on 8 Jan. '21. Sherwood Elevator stands to the left. Sherwood Elevator has been owned, operated, and expanded by the Kress family since they purchased it in 1951. Their grain terminal has a capacity of 1 million bushels. Unfortunately the elevator has not received rail service for quite a while. To the right you can see the last remnant of the former MILW depot. The depot was used by MILW and SOO until 17 Sep. ‘71, when they were granted permission to close it. This must be the smallest union depot I've ever seen. It has been moved a short distance for use as an outbuilding on a farm. This area used to be referred to as Sherwood Station or Lower Sherwood. |
