Portraits 6. Here is a steam locomotive portrait via F.R. Kern that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1946. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #31, a B-6SB (0-6-0) switcher built in Juniata during October of 1917 and retired in January of 1950 after 33 years of service. In this context, it's waiting to service the next train that stops at Altoona's Passenger Station. The structure in the background is the Railway Express Office, located at the junction of 10th Avenue and 11th Street. (#6 of 43)
