Station at Dwight, IL (Alton, ICG, Amtrak)
This interesting station at Dwight, IL is in the "Richardson Romanesque" style. It looks, for lack of a better word, a bit "theological" to me which is a ironic considering it has some basis in Roman design. It was built in 1891 when the line was the Chicago and Alton Railroad. It would shortly become the Chicago and Alton Railway controlled variously by the UP, Rock Island, and NKP. Then it became a subsidiary of the B&O and was renamed the "Alton Line". Then the Illinois Central Gulf (the period when this photo was taken), Then the Chicago Missouri & Western Railway, then Southern Pacific subsidiary SPCSL Corp., and as of this writing back to Union Pacific.
