CN local slows to halt alongside a string of about six GLVX pulpwood cars at what remains of the former GB&W yard at New London, WI on 21 Feb. '18. Consist included UP 78087. The pulpwood cars are owned by Marion Plywood Corp. (est. 1894) and when loaded cars arrive, the logs are trans-loaded to trucks for the 24-mile trip to Marion, WI. Marion had rail service, courtesy of C&NW, from 1879 to 1982. The reporting mark is based on Great Lakes Veneer, Inc., a subsidiary of Marion Plywood Corp. and co-located at its Marion, WI facility. The GB&W depot once stood here, along the east (right) side of the north end of Avon St. It was later moved two blocks east to the N. Shawano St. grade crossing. It was later moved to a nearby business. |
