CN through freight emerges from behind the historic Tuttle Press Co. factory and approaches N. Lawe St. as it heads northeast via former C&NW rails at Appleton, WI on 1 Jul. ’14. Train was headed from Stevens Point to Green Bay and had two locomotives, CN 5641 pulling and CN 2136 pushing. The factory dates to 1905, it later operated as Artfaire and finally as Sulpaco West, Inc. For nearly a century this facility produced a variety of renowned specialty papers: napkins, table covers, tissue, craft paper, paper dolls, gift boxes, crepe paper, and especially gift wrapping paper, until Sullivan Paper Co. shuttered this plant on 27 Jun. ’02 and moved production to one of its other facilities in Mass. Since then it appears to have been used as storage for one or more local businesses. The spur used to serve Tuttle Press, Luvata (formerly Valley Cast), and Appvion (originally Appleton Papers), only the latter is a current rail customer. |
