CN 4705
The local in Menasha crosses Water Street and enters the thru plate girder swing bridge across the Fox River navigation canal. The bridge was put in by the Milwaukee Road (Milwaukee and Northern) in 1905 to reach Neenah. The former Milwaukee and Northern depot in Neenah still stands in good repair in 2014.

T. P. Bruss General Awesome photo at a cool location. I appreciate the history information as well. I’ve seen the rails listed on old maps as joint MILW/SOO, but I did not know which road originally laid the rails. 6/25/2014 3:12:17 AM
Richard Hopfensperger General The Milwaukee and Northern built west to Menasha where it split to Neenah and Appleton back in 1871. What was to become known as the Milwaukee Road bought the Milwaukee and Northern in 1893. Around this time, the original Wisconsin Central was looking to build to Manitowoc and the car ferry traffic. They were able to get trackage rights by 1895 and then built to Manitowoc from Hilbert starting in April of that year. I have been unable to tell how far into Neenah the Milwaukee and Northern reached. I think they may have built to the Wisconsin Central (Soo) yard. 6/25/2014 8:59:08 AM
