LIRR H16-44 #1504  Contributor's Pick!
Traditional shot of the conductor giving the engineer hand signals. Built in October of 1951, this Fairbanks-Morse unit was designated a class FGP-16msc ((F= Fairbanks Morse, GP= General Purpose, 16=1600HP, M= MU, S= Steam Generator, C= Speed Control) and used primarily for passenger service most of its life. Date is approximate. No photographer listed but possibly could be one of John Krause's LIRR photos. Thanks to Mke Woodruff's help (see comment below), the location and a better date approximation have been set for the photo. Thanks, Mike!

Alan Fricker General I'm partial to FM's, so this is a great album. Classic photo, too-steam era tank and an Alco RS in the background, and other elements of 1950s-era railroading! 6/6/2014 9:47:18 AM
Robert Farkas General Great slice of history. 6/8/2014 10:09:31 PM
Fred Stuckmann General Classic image. 6/9/2014 9:10:25 AM
Mike Woodruff General This is at Oyster Bay, NY. Given the Tichy paint scheme on the locomotives and cars, the date is probably a few years earlier than 1960. 11/16/2020 7:37:24 PM
