Old detector house with new
CSX has replaced the old SCL era detector house (as they are refered to in SCL track charts) with a Harmon Electronics detector at MP S-433.4 between Sycamore and Fairfax, SC. At this location, you can see the Seaboard stretch out straight as an arrow in both directions for miles, giving this stretch of "Air Line" a true meaning to the SAL.

David Nutter General How many day trains runs here? 11/28/2008 11:11:55 PM
Carter Buchanan General I am not 100 percent certain, but there are 2 Amtrak trains (No's 91 and 92, the "Silver Star"), a couple intermodals between Atlanta/Augusta/Savannah, 2 or 4 mixed freights and a varying amount of loaded and empty coal trains and some locals between Columbia and Savannah. Most traffic runs between Fairfax and Savannah. Seeing traffic on it, you roll the dice, sometimes is quiet and sometimes is busy, it's safe to say roughly 12 to 15 trains a day, but someone may have better knowledge. It's a fun subdivision to follow, esp with highway US 321 following it most of the time in South Carolina. 5/16/2013 2:28:31 AM
