IANR 1856 & 1894
In the early days, Iowa Northern struggled to stay afloat. For quite a while, they ran these 2 Geeps as main power, after a host of ex Rock Island EMDs failed and were struck on deadlines around the system. When I was a trackman for CNW, the arrival of IANR in the CNW Cedar Rapids yard was an every-other day occurance, always behind these 2 units. IANR chalked in small letters on the hoods was the only indicator of the owner.

Tom Beckett General I caught these by sheer dumb luck while driving through Waterloo in 1987. What's more remarkable was that I lived in NY at the time, and was just passing through as part of a larger trip to Minnesota. I can hunt for years to shoot a line like this and never find a live train, so that was a treat. 3/22/2013 11:23:07 AM
