Two of Muscatine's best known houses appear on top of the hill - one is Queen Anne style from the late 19th Century. The other is a Greek Revival house from the mid 19th century. I believe that both were originally owned by riverboat captains. Along 2nd Street in Muscatine there are several more impressive late 19th Century houses as that was the neighbourhood where factory owners and riverboat owners lived at the time. It is still a nice area - those houses both have impressive views of the Mississippi River. This naturally, is the hilly part of Iowa |
