| Looking north in Bedford, Indiana; at the point (MP 246) where the CSX (which inherited the L&N/Monon routes) from Mitchell ends. About five blocks of street running are behind the photographer. At this point the ex-Monon mainline becomes the Indiana RR, which takes the switch and turn to the left over the former Milwaukee Road/SOO/CP (from MP 262.5). The creaky track straight ahead is what's left of the MON mainline to Chicago. The road's depot, with its red roof, sits to the right; it's now the town's recycling center. Both CSX and IRR filed to abandon these lines in 2010. |
