CB&Q 2-8-2 Class O-1 5013 |
Description: |
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 2-8-2 Class O-1 5013 at Denver, Colorado on June 1, 1918, photographer unknown, photograph from the collection of the Denver Public Library, print scanned from Louis Zadnichek collection. Number 5013 was built by Baldwin in December 1910 ( c/n 35736 ) and retired in June 1942. There are four gentlemen at work in this photo, two are loading the tender with coal, one is above the locomotive's stack unloading coal, and the Fireman's side of the headlight is open that another gentleman is at work servicing, while balancing himself on the step provided. It appears to be chalked "No Sand" on the cylinder cover, my interpretation, it may have been chalked and corrected by this photo date. Also visible is an early version of a speed recorder, note the belt running from the trailing truck journal to a box mounted on the firebox and connected by a pipe to the cab. |
