Description: |
The WSOR job on the Markesan branch passes the Stellmacher elevator in Fairwater as it heads back to Horicon at night fall. A lot of tonnage comes off this former Milwaukee Road branch from sand quarries. There are a handful of customers on the line. Though it still has a spur, I have not seen anything spotted at this elevator. I don't get over there to see very often. |

A typical Horicon to Oshkosh set of power crosses Stanton St. near the grain elevator as it approaches Oshkosh Ave. in Ripon. The WSOR typically runs a turn to Oshkosh daily on the Milwaukee Road's old Twelfth Subdivision from Horicon, serving numerous communites along the way. This return trip had a lighter load with only three tanks and two boxcars. |

Description: |
A WSOR boxcar is set on the north track that connected the Milwaukee Road with the CNW line in Ripon, WI. This track heads east and now ends at the Seneca canning plant, rather than going to Fond du Lac as it once did. Straight down the rail is north where Ripon Jct. is located. Ripon Junction is where the tracks diverge and run to either Oshkosh or towards Rush Lake and a former junction there. The tracks that would have gone to Rush Lake and beyond now end at the side of a factory on the north side of Ripon. However, the actual useage of this ends at the Alliance (former Speed Queen) factory where a large pile of gravel protects Oshkosh Street. The line to Oshkosh is still open and well used. |

Ripon Team Track |
Description: |
Looking south from the site of the former CNW crossing of the Milwuakee Road in Ripon, WI. The track going off to the right is a connecting track to the CNW line to Princeton and beyond. This skirts along the edge of the Gothic Mill Pond and now ends about a quarter mile from this turnout, short of Scott Street. The CNW depot was located along this stretch of rail, now it is only a storage track. Ahead, between the turnouts is a short bridge that crosses the Gothic Mill Pond. The Milwaukee's depot was just around the bend. It is no longer standing. This siding the hoppers are on is now used to transload bulk materials into covered hoppers. |

The Pickett Co-op unloaded covered hoppers open to the elements into a pit with a conveyor that transferred the load directly into trucks or the farmers gravity bins. The new facility allows for storage of the commodities unloaded and mixing in the elevator. |

Description: |
At Pickett, the WSOR reinstalled this section of track that had been pulled up many years ago. The old track was used to serve a canning plant that changed hands numerous times. I think it was a Chiquita plant last, before it was closed and production shifted to Ripon in what is now a Seneca facility on a section of former CNW rail. WSOR laid this section in preparation to serve American Colloids, which was moving into the building. This never really took off and American Colloids moved out. The building is now used by Quality Protective Coatings. They use the facility to perform contract work for Oshkosh Corporation. The track is used for storage, usually of DODX cars. |

Description: |
A typical set of WSOR GP38 type units at Ripon Junction. During the days of the Milwaukee Road, this junction is where the line went off to the east to Oshkosh or north to Rush Lake. At Rush Lake, there was another junction which allowed trains to run west to Berlin or north to Omro and Winneconne. The track that went to Rush Lake now terminates at Oshkosh Street which is a couple hundred feet in front of the 3811. The junction itself is within the confines of Alliance, formerly Speed Queen, factory that manufactures commercial laundry equipment. Alliance receives covered hoppers via WSOR. |

WSOR 3809 |
Description: |
In Fisk, the WSOR crosses Eight Mile Creek on a bridge put in by the Milwaukee Road in 1910. County Highway FF also crosses Eight Mile Creek here, and both intersect each other at almost the same spot. Both bridges and the grade crossing are all visible here, though not much can be seen of the railroad bridge. |

WSOR 3809 |
Description: |
A short train returning to Horicon from Oshkosh on Memorial Day, 2014, leaves Reeds Corners. Reeds Corners is one of the oldest settlements in the Town of Metomen in Fond du Lac County. It was once a prominent community on the original Milwaukee and Horicon Railway, with two churches, a depot, post office and local stores and shops. The community lost its post office and station in 1873. They were moved a half mile south and renamed Metomen. Today, Reeds Corners is a small collection of homes with Reeds Corners Bethel Cemetary marking the location of the original community. |
