C&O 7068 leads a cut of F's out of Kodak September 1965
Title:  C&O 7068 leads a cut of F's out of Kodak September 1965
Description:  C&O 7068 in experimental black & white paint scheme pulling out of the B&O lead at Kodak. I'm standing on the south side of the ridge, looking to the north (and a little west). L.B. Finewood is across the street. Keep in mind the switch to Kodak was on the north side of the ridge at that time, meaning the B&O had two tracks that crossed at grade - the main and the lead into Kodak. The handsome F is in charge of 4-5 others on a Saturday or Sunday unit coal train equipped with road power. Notice the engineer's hand dangling on a nice late summer day. The "flare" is (was) an all too common attribute of roll film when mishandled either installing or removing from the camera, in this case a 127 Brownie.

Beikirch Ford in Avon along side the EL - 1 of 2
Title:  Beikirch Ford in Avon along side the EL - 1 of 2
Description:  Date approximate. Looking north from 5&20 (W. Main St.), a view of the EL yard in Avon (pre-LA&L) from *I think* a school bus on a day trip. The station is in use; crews are based in Avon; the line to Batavia is intact; and one can get a deal on a used Corvair (probably a trade-in) from Beikirch Ford next door. Notice it is sitting on RR property. Don't want it to infect any new Fords! Ick! Lots of wagons! The caboose is probably either C129 or C140.

B&O Weed Spray Train at Dock Jct. - August 1969 photo 1 of 4
Title:  B&O Weed Spray Train at Dock Jct. - August 1969 photo 1 of 4
Description:  Kodak was kind enough to date the photos for me (August 1969). Pictured is the B&O weed spray train at Dock Junction, returning from the end (northernmost) point on the line, which in those days meant the NYC (PC) interchange with the Hojack. Returning from the interchange entailed crossing the Lake Ontario State Parkway on an overpass and crossing Latta, Denise, Britton and Stonewood Roads at grade. Coincidently (and with a couple of exceptions), this path is also the border between Greece and Rochester (Charlotte). The crew sprayed during the northbound trip and has everything put away for the return trip back to Brooks Ave. If it looks like there’s an oily sheen on everything, it’s because there is – the spray was a black, oily, nasty substance that (probably) couldn’t be used as an EPA permitted pesticide today. Oh, what we didn’t know… The last photo shows the Dock Jct. concrete phone booth. The diverging route to the left will take you over the NYC Charlotte branch (we called it “black bridge” for reasons I hope are obvious…) and down to the coal docks at the end of Boxart St.

Wallington (NY) junction - 1 of 2
Title:  Wallington (NY) junction - 1 of 2
Description:  NYC signal guarding the junction with the PRR. The view is from the west side looking to the east (toward Oswego). NYC (and later PC and OMID) obtained permission to cross by opening a small cabinet and holding down a button for 5 seconds (I *think* it was 5), which in turn ran down a timer in the signal circuit and eventually gave the NYC crew a restricted proceed (yellow over red). Once the crew cleared the circuit, the signals timed out once again and gave it back to the PRR. Years later, OMID crews ran it in the same fashion even though they owned both lines.

The bland leading the bland in the fall of 1975 - 1 of 3
Title:  The bland leading the bland in the fall of 1975 - 1 of 3
Description:  PC 2845 leads a decent freight on the Falls Road, back when it was still a thru route to NF. That's the 390 bridge (green) in the background. They've just crossed Lee Rd. and these bridges are over the Erie Canal. The one on the right is the trolley bridge, sitting unused for many years prior to this scene. Today, both still exist but now both are unused. The Falls Road is no longer in one piece, the rails have been pulled at Lee Rd, this bridge has been blocked off, and what's left is a rarely used industrial track.
