GARIBALDI OR Sept 29 1978 -- Rayonier 2-8-2 OCSR 90 is on display at the Oregon Coast Scenic facility. The locomotive was built by Baldwin in 1926 as Polson Logging Co. (Hoquiam WA) no. 90. Polson became part of Rayonier Inc. in 1945. The engine was retired in the early '60s and sold to the Oregon Memorial Steam Train Assoc. and put on display in Garibaldi in 1963. PORTLAND OR Oct 2 1978 -- Burlington Northern GP35s 2540 and 2335 are about to roll by Portland Terminal S2 40. EMD built the unit (b/n 29284) for the Chicago Burlington & Quincy in October 1964 as CB&Q 994. It was rebuilt into a GP39E (b/n 897016-1) in June 1990, renumbered BN 2904 and gained whiteface paint. It now wears the number BNSF 2904 and is still in BN paint (as of March 18 2012). PORTLAND OR Oct 2 1978 -- Union Pacific TR5A 1872 and 1870B idle at the Albina Yard engine house. EMD built the 1872 (b/n 15070) in September 1951. It was rebuilt to SW10 1234 on June 30 1982. UP 1872 and 1870B were mated in June 1976. EMD built 1870B (b/n 15076) in September 1951. It was scrapped at Omaha in June 1982. The 1234 was renumbered to 1237. In 1998 it was sold to David J. Joseph Company and then, "Sold to Mobile Locomotive Service, moved to Lake Terminal (Kobe Steel), Lorain, Ohio in November 1998 and January 1999." OAKRIDGE OR Oct 31 1978 -- Not really an action shot but what the heck. Southern Pacific SD45 8963 and its mixed freight are tied down in this central Oregon town. EMD built the locomotive (b/n 33660) in May 1968. It was rebuilt in Sacramento to SD45R 7499 in March 1984 as part of the M-99 Program. It was retired by Union Pacific June 18 2001. It was acquired by Ohio Central System, still in SP paint, as OHCR 7499. It eventually gained Ohio Centrals distinctive paint scheme.
