Album Info:On my second visit to Cincinnati prepping for the surprise Great Wolf Lodge trip for my little cousins, I met up with AJ to do a little railfanning around town. Unfortunately, things didn't go quite to plan, but we grabbed what we could. Enjoy!

IORY 2134
Title:  IORY 2134
Description:  Today was the second visit I would be paying the Cincinnati area to prep for the upcoming surprise Great Wolf Lodge trip for the little cousins. I had more arcade cards to check balances on today and some other things to do there to prep. However, that wasnt going to take an entire day, so I asked AJ if he would like to spend the day watching trains with me. IORY was set to run a rock train east to the quarry out by Columbus with a set of repainted Dash 8s, and CSX had a rail train to come south with a SD40-2 leader. So, things looked like they would be in our favor. However, when I got to AJs, the rail train wouldnt be in the picture, so all of our hope was set on the stone train. We went to Norwood first to check to make sure nothing else was running around there. Almost right off the bat, light power off a McCollough yard transfer grabbed us at Linden Avenue.

IORY 4502
Title:  IORY 4502
Description:  Right around the same time, IORYs CIND transfer job got permission to depart Oakley and head down to NA Tower. A sole BNSF Dash 9 leads the short train of hoppers and gondolas, which we grabbed from the Wesley Avenue overpass.

NS 1046
Title:  NS 1046
Description:  Unfortunately, the rock train did not pan out either, as it was long gone before we had even gotten out. According to AJ, it is pretty unusual for them to leave overnight, but not unheard of. So, with that, we really had nothing to do other than just see what came at us. We decided to move into the city and see what we could find on NS and CSX. We went to the floodwall to NS first as there were some trains coming into Gest Street. But first, NS T05 pulled up for headroom on the bridge with a SD70ACe leader.

CSX 3429
Title:  CSX 3429
Description:  CSX was next to send some trains, including a southbound L411 with a crusty YN2 leader. So, we moved south into Kentucky to grab it with Mother of God Roman Catholic Church serving as our backdrop. CSX M205 was first to leave Queensgate, however, which is what we got first as soon as we arrived.

NS 4186
Title:  NS 4186
Description:  It was back over to the NS after the two CSX southbounds. We grabbed some lunch at Wendys in Covington then went up to the lookout pavillion at Ludow, and right away, NS 170 greeted us heading north into Gest Street Yard.

CSX 5223
Title:  CSX 5223
Description:  After lunch, we moved back over to the other side of the river as we heard the CIND autorack job getting ready to mark up and head back west to Valley Junction, and also the CIND Transfer Job working the ditch track. We went back to the floodwall, and were first greeted by CSX L452 taking the turn off the Indiana Sub and into Queensgate Yard.

CSX 5257
Title:  CSX 5257
Description:  After that, all three railroads quieted down, and it was quite a while before the next one showed up. But eventually, CSX did send a M317 off the LCL bound for Queensgate. We grabbed it with the Cincinnati skyline as a backdrop.

CSX 7253
Title:  CSX 7253
Description:  We knew we had two outbound trains coming as well. We went outside to stand. For June 10th, it was rather chilly outside today, and eventually we got impatient and went back to the vehicle. Of course, that was just mere minutes before M573 came roaring around the corner. Thankfully, we did manage to get something of it.

CSX 5459
Title:  CSX 5459
Description:  As M573 continued to roll south, M277 came up alongside it on the other main. This spot here where all the construction equipment is at was a well known spot for railfans to document inbound trains with the skyline. However, it appears those days might be over. We arent sure what is going in this spot yet, but hopefully it wont be anything that will be too obstructing.

CRC 901
Title:  CRC 901
Description:  After both CSX trains and another lull on the horizon, we decided that now would be a good time to head to Great Wolf Lodge and check the arcade cards. So, thats what we did. Afterwards, we continued back toward AJs house, but made one more quick stop in Lebanon to see the Cincinnati Dinner Train power. AJ is an employee at the CRC and he had some things to do at the office there anyway. I still had yet to see the Conrail painted GP10 that the CRC acquired a few years back. When we arrived, CRC 901 still in fresh NKP black and yellow greeted us first.

CRC 7544
Title:  CRC 7544
Description:  CRC 7544 sits in full Conrail blue awaiting the next weekends dinner train. This unit is actually not a former Conrail unit, rather an ex-IC GP9. Conrails GP10s ended at No. 7543.

CRC 5704
Title:  CRC 5704
Description:  Excluded from the other equipment on the west side of town at Norgel Drive is CRC 5704. This unit will probably never run again, as the expenses to fix the issues with it are far too much, and with other power already being on hand and coming soon, the poor C&O GP7 is planned to be phased out entirely. But, for now, here it sits.

CSX 7252
Title:  CSX 7252
Description:  With my mission accomplished for the day, AJ and I went back to his house and said our farewells before I began heading toward home. There was still some daylight left in the day, so I decided to make the most of it and follow the Toledo Sub back up toward Wapakoneta. When I got close to Dayton, I heard a southbound on the scanner, so I set up at the Miami River Bridge to get a shot of the train crossing the river with the Dayton skyline in the background. A shot Ive been wanting for years was finally off the bucket list! M559 crosses the Miami River and continues south toward Cincinnati.

CSX 807
Title:  CSX 807
Description:  Another railfan accompanied me in Dayton and we got to talking when M276 showed up going north. Thankfully, trains move rather slow between Dayton and Troy, and I was able to beat the train up to Troy with ample time to spare. After grabbing it, the GPS was showing my arrival time back home to be around 10 PM, so I decided to call it a day. Another fun day trackside and got everything I needed to do accomplished!
