Album Info:In November 2006 I moved to Rogers Ark, then six months later to Siloam Springs, on the Heavener Sub. Since then, I have taken a lot of photos on the KCS in my new home town. This album contains anything I took between Davidson Rd, MP 226.5, and Elm St, approximately MP 233.

View from the bridge
Title:  View from the bridge
Description:  I dont normally do this shot, as the angles from the Cheri Whitlock overpass arent really all that good, and shooting northbounds here is problematic from a sun angle perspective anyway. There are also a lot of obstacles, mostly power lines, and a tight angle for southbounds due to a row of trees. Once in a while, though, its good to try. This is a northbound emprt AEPX coal train about to pass under the bridge behind a pair of faded UP GEs

Approaching Davidson Rd
Title:  Approaching Davidson Rd
Description:  The northbound has completed a meet with a southbound counterpart, and AEPX southbound, and is now headed north toward Gentry. He ll get lost betweeen this shot and Gentry, as the dispatcher has told him to sit tight short of there, due to an approaching southbound still up at Dorsey, and with a track car also in the picture. The light will go before I can get another shot at him.

Sheer dumb luck
Title:  Sheer dumb luck
Description:  I was on my way to a doctors appointment this morning, when I saw this train hit the crossing at Lincoln Av as I was turning onto the access to US 412. I pulled up on the bridge, and 15 seconds later, was rewarded with this scene, a southbound grain train behind a Belle and a UP unit. Some days, youre just in the right place.

Right moment
Title:  Right moment
Description:  Sometimes the railfan gods smile on you, and youre just in the right place at the right time. I was on my way home from local grocery Harps, when I saw the signal was lit for a southbound at CP South Siloam Springs as I crossed the tracks at Kenwood St. I quickly looped around and set up on the US 412 overpass, just in time to catch this southbound M train coming into view.

Empty coal
Title:  Empty coal
Description:  We were doing some work outside when we heard a northbound slowly working up from Watts. There had already been four(!!) trains in the past two hours, so was happy to finally be able to get away from what we were doing to go check this one out. Were at the old station site-it was where those two containers sit-to see the action. Repainted AC44 4595 is a happy surprise for a leader on the 130 car train in this late day view.

Another day, another coal train
Title:  Another day, another coal train
Description:  The later sunset of June allows me to get shots of trains I would not other times of year. Recently-third time in about a month-its been empty coal trains. I hear them coming up from Watts, and can beat them into town for a quick shot at Jefferson St. The first two were TXUX trains; today its 126 American Electric Power cars behind a pair of reasonably clean UP flags.

Title:  A little more train
Description:  One of the down sides of a large locomotive consist is that it detracts from the view of the train in many cases. The six units on this empty oil train dominated the previous photo, and come close here, though I got a little more train in the frame as it moves through the same scene as in the previous shot.

Lucky catch
Title:  Lucky catch
Description:  I had gone up to the transfer station, which is adjacent to the Lincoln Av crossing, to dump some wood from a recent project. As I was getting done, I heard a southbound blowing for the crossing. Dont know why, but for some reason, I cant hear the trains blowing for Country Club, or Davidson Rd from the dump. So I was caught off guard. The train, a Q KCNL, was moving slowly, only about 10 MPH. I went in and paid, then took off through the back side of town, beating him to the US 412 overpass, which is what hes approaching in this photo. Note the trees to the right of the train. Only a few years ago, they were not tall enough to block the view of the Allen Canning building, which is behind them, now used by ProPak as a warehouse.

Recycling day and another southbound
Title:  Recycling day and another southbound
Description:  One of the things about the transfer station here in town is that its adjacent to the tracks, which offers lots of opportunities while Im tending to household necessities. As I was dumping the couple of bins of recycling, I heard a horn. That turned out to be a Herzog train that was taking the siding. Radio chatter mentioned a southbound Q train, which showed shortly after the Herzog train tied up. Here is is rolling through the north end siding switch behind a pair of GEs

Bagel run
Title:  Bagel run
Description:  Theres a local coffee shop in town that has pretty tasty bagels-not the kind you get in New York, mind you, thats just not a reality here-but good nonetheless. I had texted in an order for Diane and me, and was on my way to pick them up. As I rolled up toward Kenwood St, I could see a train on the Lincoln Av crossing in the distance. I made a quick detour to US 412 west, stopping on the bridge in time to catch this southbound AEPX train with a pair of UP units.

Title:  Into the climb.
Description:  I went out to take the recycling to the transfer station, only to find they had changed their hours, now closing at 1530 instead of 1600. Not wanting to waste a trip, I rode up to Davidson Rd to check the signal. Sure enough, high green. I camped out, knowing there would be a southbound soon. Ten minutes later, the Q KCNL popped into view, working hard with a GE/EMD combo coming up from Sleepy Hollow.

Lite power north
Title:  Lite power north
Description:  I finally made it to the recycle station Thursday around 1300. No sooner than I pulled up to the roll offs, the radio went off. A northbound UP unit was calling the signal at South Siloam Springs. AEPX empty coal train, I thought, since they typically get UP power. It turned out to be a seven unit lite power move. I went over to the team track, since that would likely be the bewst lighting I could manage at that time of daY.

Subway run
Title:  Subway run
Description:  I went out to Subway to pick up a couple samswiches for us. As I came past Lake Frances Dr, I saw the DPU of a northbound hanging over the crossing. Must be a meet imminent. That train was not in a good position for a shot, but as I came up over the US 412 overpass, I saw a southbound coal train on the Lincoln Av crossing.I swung around onto US 412 west, and stopped on the bridge. We see the AEPX coal train passing the northbound Q train, which has held the main.

Later that day
Title:  Later that day
Description:  After a Subway meatball marinara, I heard a horn, announcing a northbound. I went up into town, getting ahead of the train as it approached Lincoln Av on the siding. Must be a meet. Well, there was to be one, but the southbound particiipant wasnt making good progress, so the meet was moved to Gentry. Here we see the northbound waiting in the siding while the dispatcher decides what to do.

Lucky catch
Title:  Lucky catch
Description:  We were coming back from yet another trip to Wal Mart-theres a Neighborhood Market on the west end of town-and I saw a train under the US 412 overpass, which looked like a northbound coal train in the siding. As I was taking note of that, I saw a UP unit slowly heading south. OK, a meet, probably easing up to the signal while the northbound clears the plant. I swung down to Lake Frances Rd, hoping to beat the southbound to the crossing. The railfan gods smiled on me, and I got to the crossing just as the gates came down.
