Album Info:PKP SA is the leading railway operator in Poland. The company was founded 2001 when the former Polskie Koleje Panstwowe state-owned operator was divided into several units based on the requirements laid down by the European Union. So it has today several division, among them PKP Intercity, PKP Cargo, the regional operator PKP Szybka Kolej Miejska and PKP LHS (Inland broad gauge steelworks line). Since deregulation of the Polish railmarket there are 53 companies operating in the freight business and over 10 companies in the passenger market. The history of rail transport in Poland dates back to the first half of the 19th century when railways were built under Prussian, Russian, and Austrian rule.
