Coal and yellowjackets |
Description: |
A four unit set of NYSW 45s has an eastbound PLMT, symbolled RC 1, for ReCrew, a dogcatch crew that relieved the outlawed crew from Buffalo, rolling through Waverly past the classic buildings that serve as a backdrop here. The semaphore has dropped to stop now that the train is several hundred feet past the signal. |

East side of town |
Description: |
The east side of Waverly has some notable features. Note how wide the tracks are here. There was a center siding here during Erie and EL days, which was removed by Conrail, but the tracks were never straightened. At left is a pet food plant, which would remain a Conrail customer for several more years. We see PLMT, a coal train for Mt Tom Mass, rolling past with four yellowjackets. |

Description: |
One of the most scenic places on the NYSW, indeed in New York, was Bairds farm near Warwick. It was a popular photo spot, and the family was gracious in allowing railfans access. It was a "must do" photo stop for the trip, which we see posed at the farm, along with some of JJ Youngs inflatable cows, imported from Binghamton for the occasion. |

Going west |
Description: |
A late SLN 3-the train usually showed in the morning-rolls through Owego on a mission to get to Buffalo. A pair of GEs and a pair of 45s have the task today for the 65 Sea Land platforms, 6 COFC and 7 freight.Note the 40 MPH speed sign. Conrail allowed certain frieghts 50 here, as did EL in days past, so this is a speed restriction, most likely due to work being done in the area. |
